Many people are carrying feelings that don’t alway

Many people are carrying feelings that don’t always have a name.

Eco-grief. Climate anxiety. Solastalgia: the distress of witnessing the places we love change before our eyes, while still calling them home.

Some of us, (at times) feel overwhelmed, numb, frightened, restless or quietly heartbroken. Others experience anticipatory grief — grieving futures, species, seasons, landscapes and ways of life that feel uncertain or already slipping away.

These responses are the natural deeply human response to living in changing times.

The upcoming Environmental Grief Support Group offers a gentle, facilitated space to pause, reflect and connect with others who may be carrying similar feelings.

I’m honoured to host these groups. Together we will explore conversation, reflection, grounding practices and collective care — without pressure to have answers or to “stay positive.”

As Glenn Albrecht writes, solastalgia is “the homesickness you have when you are still at home.”

The longest tomato season has now ended with a mix

The longest tomato season has now ended with a mixed crop and lots of red chilli’s perfect for a batch of spicy tomato kasundi.

As we head into our 3rd Adelaide Hills winter I am feeling more prepared for the long months of damp, cooler days, open fires, hot soups - we now have the underfloor heating in the bathroom, the outdoor bath under the stars, solar panels to cover the day time AC, more woolly clothing, boots and beanies 😅

The change of seasons here is quite dramatic, warm and sunny last week, now cold and damp - until probably November!

I love it! It’s true. I have forged a deep bond with this valley, the landscape, the produce, and the people.

Soon I’ll be thinking about pruning the roses and fruit tree, planting more flowers (bulbs), a range of berries and collecting more firewood. 🪵

🌿Gentle Yoga session this morning was in a sublime

🌿Gentle Yoga session this morning was in a sublime room at @adelaidecc. A gorgeous vista across the Torrens River, with a golden sunrise sharing soothing yoga with this group of delegates from #NC2026.

🤍Relaxation, resting, stretching and moving in rhythm with your own breath. We created space for restoring some calm in our bodies before a big day of conferencing at the SMSF Association national conference.

(I might have spent the rest of the morning walking riverside and sunning by the pool 😉)

🌀With rates of burn out and psychological injury on the rise, it was my pleasure to offer these nervous systems an opportunity to find steadiness and relaxation whilst moving through a nourishing gentle soothing yoga practice.

🙏Yoga means to yoke. In our yoga practice we draw together the mind (slow down brain chatter) the body (feeling muscles, stretching and deeply relaxing) the rhythmic breath and the spirit/energy.

Afterwards we often feel more settled and for many of us our thinking brain has more clarity.

“Have you ever met someone who pauses as they listen, taking an extra moment before responding?

I love that. 💙

I think of that little pause as the “art of calm.”

There is a small window of choice between taking in information, and responding to it.

It’s a space where we listen to the heart - and it knows.

By taking a little more time before responding to people in person or on social media, we give the heart and mind more space to avoid reaction - and to organize a useful action - keeping us in alignment with the source of all peace.

Peace and calm don’t just happen.

We practice them.

And when we practice peace and calm, we BECOME more peaceful and calm.

And that’s some mighty good medicine for all of us right now. 💙

If I posted my daily harvest you would see parsley

If I posted my daily harvest you would see parsley, zucchini’s, basil, silverbeet, rocket and a few apples. Almost everyday. A few weeks ago it was mulberries and cherries from the decades old trees, and plums from across the road.
If you are in the area you are welcome to pop in and fill a basket 🍏🍐🍒🥒🌶️🫛🫑🥬🌿🍃🍅🥦🌶️🥕🌿

We keep a list of things to plant! Finger limes, more stone fruits, citrus, nuts and herbs. We appreciate cuttings and seeds and novel ideas!
I was gifted a box of dahlia bulbs ! And look at those beauties in the food forest - splashes of vibrancy amidst the greens.

One day I’ll write a list of everything. It’s an adventure out there, with four of us planting and watering and picking. I love the surprises. Like the lemon verbena picked in the afternoon - perfect for a pot of tea to settle me between sessions.

Yay for books! 📚 These arrived today and I notice they represent my current interests and loves pretty perfectly.

📘Magic Beach by Alison Lester. An all time family favourite that is going towards a tiny persons library once he arrives 🤍✨🙏

📕Ferment: A guide to the ancient art of culturing foods by @hollydaviswholefood. A local legend on the Northern Beaches and beyond and I’m really not sure how I don’t have my own copy - I’ve gifted this book so many times. My love of food and cooking will be enriched with the incredible resource.

📓Nurturing Resilience: An Integrative Somatic Approach by Kathy Kain and Stephen Terrell. Has been on my wish list for a while now as I deepen my knowledge and support myself in counselling practice.

📘📕📓📚What’s on your bookshelf ?

I move from audio books to hard copy and across to audio podcasts and then to quality screen programs. This summer has been filled with incredible content. I’ll share more of what I love soon 🌿✨🤍
