“I love the Presenter’s style. The combination of conversation, experiential learning and theory seemed just right. I felt it was a really good introduction for people working with Trauma survivors. It gave me hope and I think a greater understanding of myself as someone with lived experience of Trauma. Thank you for the opportunity to engage in this thought-provoking workshop. I would love to join the Provider Support Group.” Elizabeth M.

We know…

The current environment has created more anxiety than many of us have experienced before. There are many reasons for us to be stressed. People feel traumatised, distressed and we are all seeking more connection.

Learning about how trauma is held in the body, nervous system, our memory and relationships is relevant now, more than ever before. When we understand the impacts of traumatisation we are better able to positively manage ourselves and those around us.

Trauma Aware Training will give you a broad understanding of how to apply a trauma informed lens with people in your world, become trauma aware with skills to use in any aspect of your life.

• Learn to identify and understand the many types of trauma
• Appreciate the ongoing impacts of stress, trauma and anxiety
• Develop coping strategies for yourself and ideas to support others

Who Is This Training For?

Trauma Aware Training is for the whole community. These skills help us all contribute to a calmer, more connected, considerate and caring community, workplace and home life.

Trauma Aware Training is relevant to anyone who works or lives with adults who may have experienced trauma, stress, grief and developed anxieties and is having difficulties with coping.

Open to health and wellbeing practitioners, yoga teachers, body workers, teachers, community service workers, and volunteers. Everyone who works with people is welcome to attend this training, there are no prerequisites.

Why Become Trauma Aware?

We all know someone who:

  • has been impacted by some kind of trauma
  • is living with overwhelming anxiety
  • is coming to terms with grief, stressors and loss
  • endures social isolation and desires connection
  • could benefit from a calmer community

Research verifies that looking through a trauma-informed lens means we are more sensitive to the impact of trauma on others and yourself, it means understanding and using tools to support yourself and others in regulating during times of stress as well as identifying and supporting changes needed to reduce re-traumatization.

Current research encourages health and wellbeing practitioners to adopt a trauma aware framework to reach more community members by improving retention rates, return rates, referral rates, group cohesion, and community connections. We can all benefit from this information.

What Small Changes Make the Difference?

Learn how to be more supportive and trauma aware

Explain how making some small changes to your choice of words, questions and gestures, modifying your space/environment can profoundly improve the experience of people you impact. When providing safety is the prime goal, the trauma aware person has capacity to feel more connected, less anxious, less stressed and calmer. Especially those that have experienced trauma, endured stress, prolonged grief and overwhelming life events.

We simply don’t know what people are holding inside when we meet them.

Learn how to modify your behaviour so that you reduce negative impacts for more people. As we become more trauma aware we demonstrate a high level of care, greater understanding and allow for more compassion and kindness.

You’ll develop greater personal awareness in this training.

The Polyvagal theory helps us understand the state of the nervous system, how to provide greater safety, increase connection and promote deeper connection with your work mates, family, clients and broader community.

Using Polyvagal theory principles we’ll explore ways to help people feel safe and how to provide psychological safety. This will reduce the incidence of triggers in your community- triggers are frequently unseen but deeply felt.

We welcome you to the Trauma Aware Training for Community to find out more about trauma informed practice and how this can be applied in your world.
