Reduce Stress + Anxiety = Pain Relief
I was listening to my new favourite podcast this morning, whilst walking soon after sunrise. The lovely @brookemcalary interviews a USA physical therapist (physio) who had decided to slow down her delivery of medical services.
This is a real challenge in a world where over there, like here, medicos are often encouraged to book 3 patients into 15-30 minute time slots; time pressures mean medicos are in rush whilst they give care and often resorting to quick fixes.
In this podcast Dr Christine explains how she is including conscious breathing, mindfulness, yoga and other practices where the patient is invited to bring attention to their body. It was wonderful to hear the PT doctor explain that her patients, who agree to experiment with interoception, heal quicker and experience less pain. What we understand is that pain is often held in the body with stress, tension and mindlessness.
